Interestingly it appears that while the #5 is a new TS050, the #6 appears to be a modified TS040. The #6 is only numbered like that on the side pods, with the nose carrying the #5. The #6 also has the old rear with the 3 lights on the back compared to the new square LED cluster seen on the #5. It also has the high pitched scream of the old V8 up to about 6 minutes where it switches to the more muffled sound of the new twin turbo V6 (though there are still points where you can here the old V8). I wonder why they painted a TS040 development mule in the new race livery instead of bare carbon or the old livery. Is toyota planning on saving money by using a modified TS040 for their second car? I know they were down on funds last year.

Looking at the results from the prologue, they only ran one car there, the #5. I wonder if a second TS050 even exists.

Thats what I thought? Sustainable technology or f1 i the question because the racing in f1 is a joke and boring, thats why there are 4 people who can win. I get enough politicing in other areas of life, keep it outta motorsports

Toyota did wrap one of the TS040s in the 2016 livery to showcase it before the debut of the TS050. I’m not generally knowledgeable on reason why they would do that if it were the case, but if anything I would guess the reasoning would be to look at the timing between the cars different aero packaging and/or power. They look pretty damn similar too!

The big difference between the the TS040 and the TS050 is the height of the nose. While the nose on the TS040 swept down to meet the splitter, the new nose is elevated to allow air to flow underneath it on its way to the radiators. As for the rest of the car the changes are rather minute and hard to identify without seeing the cars side by side.

As for testing I would have fully expected them to bring the old car with them to do a side by side comparison but the modifications with the new nose and old engine, before moving to the new engine seems a bit odd.
